Jars and paint

What to do with a few extra hours alone in the house, cat is sleeping, don't have a TV, and saving my book for the evenings.... Hmmm.
Found some jars that I've been keeping in the closet, some left over spray paint and paint from the bathroom and a hot glue gun. Perfect!
This is what happened.

The Jars

The supplies

Fill one of the jars with paint and then slowly pour out so you can coat the inside

Let them dry over night.

With another jar and the hot glue gun write one the jar

I had some left over chalk board paint, perfect for a solid color

After a few coats, the word looks like it is part if the glass

I used the frosted spray paint for this little buddy

I frosted the Patron bottle from the bottom up to gradually fade out of the paint

I suggest to let them dry outside over night to let the paint settle and then spray with a matte sealant so you can't scratch off the paint.

That my friends is what happens when I have an energy drink on an empty stomach and a few hours to kill alone at home.
Time to attack the cat, lazy little thing!

Composting, apartment style

Recently we started growing some herbs and veggies for out on the deck. Since they will be staying in a container all summer long I wanted to make sure that the soil had plenty of nutrition and a nitrogen/carbon rich compost was the plan.
While we were at Ace retrieving our free quart of paint, we picked up a 5 gallon bucket and lid to start our compost.

For a nice how to get started click on this link, http://eartheasy.com/grow_compost.html
I refer back to this often.

The start of my compost.
Still need to go out and find some soil and tiny bit of manure to get this going.

Happy cycling.

Smart watering

Smart water is some of our favorite bottled water. So we seem to gather bottles here and there. Instead of throwing them out and re-using them at work, Kyle decided one would be easier to use for watering the plants and veggies we have growing.
Simple and perfect.
Here is what we did:

Drill a few holes into the lid of the bottle

Fill with water and squeeze.

Easy enough

Free Paint

For every Saturday in the month of March Ace Hardware is giving out a free quart of paint per household. Free paint? Yes please!
We decided on Blue Lagoon for the bathroom, which worked out perfectly because it matches the two watercolor paintings I have hanging up and goes well with the frost glass.
One Saturday well spent.
Thanks Ace
